Winner, winner, Asian burger dinner

Is it surprising that a Vietnamese food restaurant won a region-wide battle for best vegan burger? Nah. After all, Dennis Rodman is basically a diplomat to North Korea now, so anything is possible. In July, Pho Fresh received the first place overall award for its Big Eastern burger—a panko-fried portobello sandwich with fried bean sprouts and a gingery sauce on a garlic-toasted bun—by the Great Sacramento Vegan Burger Battle. Diners voted for winners in multiple categories out of 36 eateries, and Pho Fresh came out on top—even though it didn’t have a burger on its omnivore or two-page vegan menu previously. Between the award and customer requests to continue serving the burger, the restaurant posted on Facebook that it will oblige, but only during the first week of every month: “We wish we could offer more days but having an Asian Kitchen and making burgers is a challenge.” Taste the winner at 10673 Coloma Road.
