Most of Floater’s songs on its MySpace page only play for 59 seconds. Who does that? Fifty-nine seconds is not nearly long enough to determine if a band is worthy of a night out, cover charge and possible next-day hangover—60 seconds would be better. Finally, at the bottom of the Portland, Ore., trio’s playlist, there are two full songs. Score! Despite the band name, the group most definitely has its sea legs. During the group’s 16 years together, they’ve mastered the transgenre shuffle, with songs floating from alternative rock to metal to roots and back again.
