Wed, July 13, Reverend Horton Heat
Ace of Spades, 8 p.m., $20
Sacramento, CA 95814
He’s no more a reverend than Tom Parker was a colonel, but there’s no missing authenticity in the guitar playing. Heat shreds. Though situated primarily in rockabilly, he sprawls into cocktail swing, country, psychobilly and garage as well. Over the last two decades, he’s released 10 albums, including a stretch at the beginning of his career when he migrated from Sub Pop to Interscope and seemed ready to capitalize on the swing revival. It never happened, and Heat’s settled into a solid career characterized by slick, sizzling reverb guitar licks and lively rhythms, cut with occasional flashes of subtlety and understated poignancy. 1417 R Street, www.reverendhortonheat.com.
