Thurs, Sept 3, The Thermals

Beatnik Studios, 8 p.m., $10

Getting noticed by the prince of indie-pop, Ben Gibbard, of Death Cab for Cutie and the Postal Service, is probably the biggest dream of most small-time indie bands. Portland’s the Thermals were lucky enough to have that exact situation happen to them, when Gibbard handed off their demo to the people at Sub Pop Records, who immediately signed them. The band took full advantage, putting out three albums on the label, constantly touring, and now has their fourth release on Kill Rock Stars. Check out their catchy, love-pop indie style when they kick off their brief September tour in Sacramento before they head out to Europe. 2421 17th Street, www.thethermals.com.
