After dissolving seven years ago, Pocket for Corduroy is back. Well, for one show. Plus a semi-private show. But still: The Nevada City band is back. The reason? All four members—Dan Elkan, Andrew Hodgson, Pete Newsom, Thad Stoenner—live in town again, and a friend requested they play for her birthday (that’s the semi-private show). Powerful, dynamic and melodic, PFC was an indie-rock revelation and a commanding force in the local music scene in the late ’90s until 2002. The band only released two recordings, but the songs still sound relevant. They were just as exhilarating to watch onstage, too, making it worth every sweaty, stuffy moment of being crammed on the staircase of the old Capitol Garage looking down at the quartet. Although members have contributed to a myriad of bands over the years—including Hella, Team Sleep, Them Hills and Daycare, to name a few—this seemingly impossible regrouping is like a birthday gift for more than just their friend.
