Low Flying Owls, fixing to ring in the weirdness of 2003.

Samuel Clemens would have understood Low Flying Owls’ predicament. Rumors of the demise of the local psychedelic-tinged combo have been strangely exaggerated. In fact, the band just signed with Stinky Records, a New York label with distribution through the independent Ryko web. Elixir Vitae, the band’s label debut, will be released in mid-April. The Owls will play a New Year’s Eve show at the Blue Lamp, 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, this Tuesday. It’s a showcase for the band’s former label, The Americans Are Coming; and a CD-release party for Frank Jordan, whose new EP, 8 Songs, was just released by the label. Also on the bill is a new band, the Proles. Cover’s $10, the show starts at 9 p.m., and it’s 21 and over only.
