The sacred art of listening

John Shelby Spong is known for giving the right wing of the Episcopal Church a headache. It’s not surprising, considering that the retired Episcopal bishop is an outspoken advocate for gay and lesbian rights, known for his headline-making stances on sexuality and theology. Hear Spong speak at World Wide Listening Day, a one-day event that aims to bring people of vastly different spiritual backgrounds together to listen—really listen to each other. The event occurs only once a year and is slated for 7 p.m. this Friday (apparently, that was the best day available on the interfaith calendar). The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1300 N Street. A donation of $10 is requested. Call (916) 447-8939 for more information.
