Cacti are perfect house plants for those with black thumbs. These unusual spiny succulents thrive in the Sacramento Valley’s arid climate on very little water, which means they’re also great for anyone trying to help the environment and conserve water. The Sacramento Cactus and Succulent Society’s 49th annual Show and Sale will feature a wide variety of the spiny plants Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Boulevard in McKinley Park. The first 100 attendees will get a free plant.
