The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge covers a whopping 30,000 square miles of Alaska. It also happens to sit atop vast reserves of crude oil, and drilling in ANWR remains a controversial topic. Next week at the Auburn Placer County Library, retired Sierra College biologist Joe Medeiros and petroleum geologist Laird Thompson will discuss the refuge’s geography, ecology and whether ANWR’s potential petroleum resources can realistically lessen U.S. dependency on foreign oil. Tuesday, March 31, 7 p.m. Auburn Placer County Library, 350 Nevada Street, Auburn. For more information, call (916) 652-7005.
