Sportin’ a Woody

“In the squares of the city / In the shadow of the steeple / Near the relief office / I see my people / And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’ / If this land’s still made for you and me.” This final stanza of Woody Guthrie’s mindful American hosanna, “This Land Is Your Land,” surely should be sung in 2003. We might have a chance to join in on it today, January 23, when a terrific Woody Guthrie tribute lineup of modern troubadours rambles into the Palms Playhouse in the Winters Opera House, 13 Main Street in Winters. Five performers inspired by the songs and vision of America’s most famous activist/songwriter/folksinger will grace the stage: Jimmy LaFave, Eliza Gilkyson, Kevin Welch, Michael Fracasso and Joel Raphael. Don’t miss this one. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are $20.
