Save the arts

The Foothill Theatre Company in Nevada City has extended its “Save Foothill Theatre” fund drive to keep its doors open. Foothill needs $90,000 in order to mount its planned September/October production of On Golden Pond.

“Money is coming in every day, but in small amounts,” artistic director Carolyn Howarth told SN&R last Friday. “Every day, we’re chipping away. This takes time.”

Last week’s fund-raiser concert brought in $5,000. Foothill management is also meeting with representatives of Nevada County and the city of Grass Valley, and Howarth said those meetings are yielding “positive results.”

Howarth said she’s shaving a week off the rehearsal schedule for On Golden Pond and making other budget cuts to keep the company going.

Foothill hopes to raise the money by August 22. For information or to make a contribution, go to www.foothilltheatre.org.
