Neighborhood market

The season for visiting farmers’ markets is well underway already, but there’s room in the local scene for one more. This Saturday is opening day for a small area market that’s well worth supporting: the Del Paso Heights Community Farmers’ Market , which opens for its third year at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, June 30, at 3525 Norwood Avenue. It’s a little market, but it’s superlatively local: Most of the farmers grow within 10 miles of the market location. You’ll find Asian vegetables, tomatoes, corn and more among the produce, plus a flower vendor, a cooking demo and vegan Caribbean food. It’s a grant-funded project, undertaken by a coalition of local agencies and nonprofits and aimed at improving access to affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables for neighborhood residents—but shoppers from other parts of town are more than welcome. The market runs every Saturday through the end of October.
