Mod Squad, The

The groovy 1960s teen-cop drama is updated to the ‘90s (or at least a version of the ‘90s where people still use words like “mod”) with Claire Danes, Giovanni Ribisi and Omar Epps in the title roles. The result is like a teenager’s bedroom—there are a couple of good things in it, but they’re not worth digging through the mess to find. The script is a disorganized clutter of mossy clichés that never makes sense. Scott Silver’s direction is slovenly, muddling important action and demeaning a cast that deserves better—besides the gifted stars, the film wastes Dennis Farina, Josh Brolin, Michael Lerner and Steve Harris.
