How do you think the future leaders, those who’ll sculpt tomorrow, view themselves? This summer, you can catch a glimpse of the inner revelations of the students at the Natomas Charter School Performing and Fine Arts Academy in Visions of Self. The art exhibit will be up until August 25 in the lobby at 1300 I Street, home of the California Arts Council and the California Department of Justice. Joey Bever’s “Breaking Free” offers a riveting vision of his face reflected in a shattered mirror, with facial features cutting jagged paths between images of medical tools and symbols, in a puzzle of pain and healing. Tierney Daniels’ “Cracks of Elegance” longs to come out in a beautiful portrait covered with cracks and fissures. On a lighter note, Nick Murphy’s “Muth” appears to be a Lord of the Rings hero at first glimpse. Actually, Murphy reveals his Norwegian roots and his self-vision, tied to the Viking god Loki.
