Melting pot

Eddie Fong used to run Eddie’s restaurant on Broadway, home of the fried-eggs-on-rice breakfast. Now that he’s out of the business, I asked which restaurants he likes to frequent:

“I like Jade Fountain [on Freeport Boulevard] for Chinese food. It’s old-school, reasonable, and the food’s always good. It’s a real local place. I get the hot pot and the baked oysters.

El Novillero restaurant on Franklin Boulevard is nice for Mexican. I normally get their steak. They’ve been there for a long time and the kitchen is very clean.

“For Japanese food, we go to Kamon [on 16th Street]. We know the owner and the food’s good. We like to go to family-run restaurants like ours was.”
