Sourdough Levain, Masullo Pizza

As if Masullo Pizza could be any more awesome, the restaurant now sells loaves of its fantastically rustic sourdough levain every day. The breads are 10 percent whole wheat, made by baker Stephanie Salanoa using the deeply flavored starter that the pizzas are based on. Salanoa bakes them each morning using the residual oven heat from the previous night’s service. The large round loaves cost $6 each, and Masullo only makes three each day. Get in at lunchtime if you can to claim your prize. With few—if any—other such artisan loaves in town, Masullo continues to feed us with world-class skill. 2711 Riverside Boulevard, www.masullopizza.com.
