Jones-ing for modern dance?

Getting a fix on the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company isn’t easy. Jones (partner Zane passed away in 1988) has been on modern dance’s cutting edge for nearly three decades; his choreography is complex, abstract-and impossible not to watch. His latest evening-length work, Oh? You Walk?, explores themes of abandonment, isolation and togetherness through movement that ranges from quirky and eccentric to bold and beautiful. Jones has a reputation for staging extravagant shows; Oh? You Walk? is no exception—a dark, medieval set, lighting that occasionally resorts to religious imagery, an eclectic score that combines elements of classic and avant-garde music. The company, making its first appearance in the region in more than 20 years, will perform several shorter pieces as well; at some locations on the current tour, Jones has been taking a rare solo turn. Friday, Oct. 20, Sacramento Community Center Theater, 8 p.m. Adults: $25-$36; students: $18-$12.50 Tickets: tickets.com (766-2277), the Community Theater box office (264-5181), the UC Davis Campus box office (530 752-1915).
