Hey, what’s that sound?

You too can play this amazing … um, whatever it’s called.

You too can play this amazing … um, whatever it’s called.

It’s music! It’s theater! It’s a chance to climb on a musical jungle gym of giant instruments! It’s Sound Stage, the new collaboration between composer Paul Dresher and Minneapolis-based “new music” group Zeitgeist. The show is a concert executed on a musical playground. An 18-foot metronome-like structure covered with bells, whistles and pendulums takes center stage. Dresher also operates a “quadrachord” with 14-foot strings and a surprise instrument you’ll have to see to believe. The best part? The audience is encouraged to play the instruments after the show. Sound Stage happens at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall. Admission is $29 for adults and $14.50 for children. Call (530) 754-ARTS for more information.
