Food Stuff

There’s nothing more all-American than being taken out to the ballpark, but the experience can leave something to be desired from a gustatory standpoint. Peanuts? Cracker Jack? Please. Parks have been sprucing up the food options in years past, and at a River Cats game at Raley Field, I was delighted to find Miller’s sausages and hot dogs. These sausages are definitely a cut above the standard baseball-game franks. You can get bratwurst, Polish (my favorite), kielbasa and more, topped with grilled onions and peppers, plus sauerkraut. There’s even Gulden’s Spicy Brown Mustard to adorn the thick, sesame-seed-studded buns. For dessert, I like to get one of those chocolate-malt cups that come with a little wooden paddle in place of a spoon. They haven’t changed or improved a bit, but sometimes a dose of nostalgia is just the thing, especially on a warm summer night when the home team is winning. 400 Ballpark Drive in West Sacramento, www.rivercats.com.
