Fogelberg-like, with a twist

Mark Weigle, Sunday at the Open Book.

Mark Weigle, Sunday at the Open Book.

Mark Weigle writes and sings music that’s firmly in the singer-songwriter tradition. His acoustic guitar work is solid, and the production on the Vallejo-based singer’s three CDs—The Truth Is, All That Matters and the just-released Out of the Loop—is commensurate with what you might find on discs by the better-known sensitive bards. But what Weigle is writing about is his life as a man, a man who happens to be gay. It’s those mundane details, and affections addressed to “him” rather than “her,” that inform his lyrics, which range from matter-of-fact vignettes of life to the maudlin to the occasional issue-oriented jeremiad. Weigle will be appearing live at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at the Open Book, 910 21st St., singing and playing tunes off his newest disc.
