Kronos Quartet, which knows a thing or two about minimalism.

The Kronos Quartet comes to town next week and—surprise, surprise!—these longtime musical explorers will be playing a lot of new material with roots all over the world. Included will be quartet arrangements of music by jazz great Charles Mingus and Latin American composer Silvestre Revueltas. Also: a piece with a Southeast Asian flavor from P.Q. Phan, a scientific-sounding essay called “Potassium” by Michael Gordon, and minimalist composer Steve Reich’s Triple Quartet. This will be one of the group’s last Northern California performances before a spring tour of Europe. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, in the Music Recital Hall at California State University at Sacramento; it’s part of the New Millennium Concert Series. Tickets are $25; call 278-4323 or try tickets.com.
