Finger lickin', blues rockin', puppy savin’ good times!

Pinetop Perkins, musical giant.

Pinetop Perkins, musical giant.

It’s not often you can do a good deed and be rewarded by more than a sense of personal satisfaction, but this Saturday, if you donate $10 to the Placer County SPCA, you’ll be rewarded with one heck of a party. BBQ and Blues 2001 features a BBQ dinner, ice cream and a blues concert not to be missed. The lineup includes New Blue Flavor, Norton Buffalo and the Knockouts and 11-time W.C. Handy award-winner for boogie-woogie piano, Pinetop Perkins, backed by Willie “Big Eyes” Smith and Rusty Zinn. At 88 years old, Perkins is one of the last original Delta blues men (and I mean Mississippi, y’all). 4-9:30 p.m. at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, 1273 High St., Auburn. Call 782-7722 for info.
