Using familiar, everyday items such as lampshades and light bulbs as the medium for her installations is nothing new for Cheri Ibes. What is new for the artist and mind behind the former gallery space Block downtown is her most recent iteration of objects installed at Artifacts, Blank Blank Blank. Consisting of the often unwanted and frowned-upon wire hangers, Ibes deconstructs her raw materials and clusters them, each hanger becoming a cell in the overall organism. Refigured, the hangers transcend their original purpose and tap on the shoulder of our consciousness with a poignant commentary on man’s relationship with nature and expendability.
