What secrets lie beneath the toadstool?

Placer Nature Center’s Brain Food lecture series begins Friday, September 3, with fungal festivities. UC Davis plant pathologist Dr. Michael Davis presents “Fact, Fiction and Folklore: Fabulous Fungus!” He’ll explain the role of fungus in our ecosystem, which mushrooms are dangerous and why fungi might be Earth’s largest organisms. The series has moved to the spacious Old State Theater, located at 985 Lincoln Way in Auburn, but it has kept the tradition of distributing free samples from the Foothill Farmers’ Market. Yum! Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for one lecture, or $40 for a season pass. For more information, call (530) 878-6053 or visit www.placernaturecenter.org.
