Eight Gigs: Tumbleweed Wanderers

Thur., May 26, 9 p.m., Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, $7-$10

You might be able to glean from the band’s name that it trades in roots-tinged Americana, and the Bay Area natives have had a good go at it, opening up for the likes of Jackie Greene (who is also playing in town this week) and Angus Stone. The band’s most recent release, Realize, which came out last year, shows maturation, moving more toward Jayhawks and Wilco territory, with heady whiffs here and there of the Black Keys. Pleasing, nostalgic stuff. Blues-folk band Ohioan opens up with its narrative, mournful tunes about Appalachia. 129 E Street in Davis, http://tumbleweedwanderers.com.
