Eight Gigs: Be Calm Honcho

Thurs., Jan. 8, 5 p.m., Crocker Art Museum, $5-$10

To kick off 2015, Crocker Art Museum's Art Mix event features indie-rock quartet Be Calm Honcho. Riding on the success of its debut album, Honcho Dreams (Crossbill Records, 2014), the group is celebrating the release of the first single from its upcoming sophomore album. The essence of folk music is overlaid with a hard edge. It's not quite AC/DC meets Bob Dylan, but more like metal ballads meet surf music meets old-school rap beats and classic rock—edgy and just hard enough. Be Calm Honcho's tunes pay homage to the West Coast with “I Love CA” and “Pretty on the West Coast.” Bonus: drink specials, dancing, games, art talks and art-making. 216 O Street, www.becalmhoncho.com.
