Diamond Men

Rated 4.0 In this comic drama-cum-hooker fantasy with a rubbery robbery subplot, veteran Pennsylvania diamond salesman Eddie (Jackie Brown’s most excellent Robert Forster) has a heart attack and then introduces his brash, younger replacement Bobby (Donnie Wahlberg) to his small-town route. Bobby may have a genuine heart under all his swagger, latest European cologne and leopard-skin undershorts, so Eddie gives him a crash course in sensitivity training as well as salesmanship. In return, Bobby embraces a mission to get Eddie laid. The reciprocal mentoring bumps up against quiet romance and glamorless crime in a low-key gem about male bonding, generation gaps, affection versus sex, the art of persuasion, and the strange effect of a huge eye tattooed on a prostitute’s chest. Written and directed by third-generation diamond salesman Daniel Cohen.
