Wherever he goes, Skip Allums remains the heart and soul of Estereo.

A lot has happened since Skip Allums, frontman of Estereo, moved to Oakland with his lady, artist Olivia Warnecke. His band got a whole new lineup, including bassist April Skywalker (no relation to Luke); pianist Rosie Wrede; drummer Sonny Culbertson; and Julie Gotsch, who’s a wiz on the wine glasses and the singing saw. The band has a new album called Second Floor Songs, described on the band’s Web site as “an intriguing and hurried mix of rough demos and sketches of new Estereo songs.” And finally, because we’re not above Us Weekly-esque gossip, Allums popped the question to Warnecke on Christmas Eve, and she said yes. Estereo currently is on a West Coast tour that brings the band to Sacramento tonight (Thursday) for one show only. Scott McChane will open. The show starts at 8 p.m. at Red Square, located at 1121 Alhambra Boulevard. Admission is free, and fans of all ages are invited. Call (916) 454-0214 or visit www.estereo.org for more information.
