Tim Orr (standing) and Fred Beeman in Resident Alien: Funkentelechy or the Placebo Syndrome?

A space alien lands in Nevada City this week, as Foothill Theatre Company opens up its summer show, Resident Alien. This light comedy enjoyed a successful run with a different cast and director a few summers back at the B Street Theatre. The story involves an extraterrestrial busboy who gets left behind when the mothership makes a brief stop in Wisconsin. The greenish alien feels like a misfit at first, but soon develops a fondness for American junk food, and befriends an intellectually minded human who likewise feels out of synch with his environment (and his job at Kmart in particular). The Foothill Theatre production will star Tim Orr as the alien; Sheldon Deckelbaum of the UC Davis Drama faculty directs. Resident Alien previews tonight (June 14) and opens Friday, continuing through August 19. Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, 8:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday in the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad St., Nevada City. $5-$21. Call (888) 730-8587 or (530) 265-8587.
