Brotherhood of the Wolf

Rated 3.0 This sort of Rainbow Coalition of film genres is a French costume drama martial arts adventure monster movie romance thriller starring an 18th-century royal court scientist (Samuel Le Bihan) and his Native American blood brother (Mark Dacascos). The two heroes of this bizarre spectacle are charted to catch a mysterious, ferocious beast that is devouring women and children in the countryside. Their task exposes them to feverish hand-to-hand combat, black magic, an elite brothel, political and religious intrigue, hallucinogens and a jaw-dropping discovery. This gory, delirious audacity is overly long at 140 minutes but is certainly never predictable. Directed and co-written by Christope Gans.
