Blame it on Bach

Eunhee Park Dickerson’s daughter moved back home to Vacaville a year ago and began practicing piano in her mother’s art studio. “My paintings underwent a profound transformation,” Dickerson says. As her daughter repeated Bach’s full chords, rapid runs and interweaving repetitive elements, Dickerson was inspired; she began painting a series of very large, deeply textured oil canvases festooned here and there with scraps of sheet music. The result does appear vaguely musical—cool aquamarines and turquoises reflecting the moods of Bach’s music, while incised lines vibrate energetically. Lines, Strings, and Sound—Oil Paintings by Eunhee Dickerson will remain on display at The Artery, 207 G St., Davis, through October 9. Dickerson will play her harp during the reception Friday, September 14, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. For more information, phone (530) 758 8330.
