Peter Langenbach, “Loose Lips Sink Ships.”

When the State Fair accepted Peter Langenbach’s sculpture “Loose Lips Sink Ships,” then named it Best in Show, who knew it would turn around and ban the piece? Created completely out of recycled parts—an old pinball machine, cardboard, tree branches—“Loose Lips” is a political cartoon that depicts the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. Fair officials didn’t think Langenbach’s interpretation was acceptable for viewing; they moved the sculpture to storage. Then, gallery owner Gregory Barton contacted the artist to offer him a space in his gallery, which now houses two of Langenbach’s politics-mocking sculptures, which will be on display for the next month. The Barton Art Gallery is located at 1723 I Street in Midtown.
