Breakfast sandwich, Hawks Provisions

Hawks Public House is more expensive than most of us can handle on a regular basis. But its neighbor, Hawks Provisions? So reasonable. Take the breakfast sandwich ($6), a simple bacon-egg-cheese deal that many other eateries in town prepare as well. But this version just tastes better. The buttermilk biscuit is tall and flaky, but still stands up to the oozing egg yolk, smoky bacon and melty provolone. It’s enough to keep you full until lunch, but you may want to grab a not-too-sweet, cream cheese-topped cinnamon roll ($3.50). You know, just in case. 1525 Alhambra Boulevard, www.hawkspublichouse.com/provisions.
