Ben & Jerry’s goes vegan

Ben & Jerry’s dairy-free ice cream exists! The iconic Schweddy Balls ice cream maker is keeping up with the times with a certified vegan, almond-milk-based quartet: Chunky Monkey, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Coffee Caramel Fudge and P.B. & Cookies. Never having tasted B&J’s before, the V Word can’t compare it to the brand’s dairy version, but compared to other almond-milk desserts, it’s pretty similar. The Chunky Monkey—banana-flavored ice cream with chocolate chips and walnuts—did not float my boat, as most banana-flavored things are Titanic, personally. The Fudge Brownie was more pleasant, not-overly-sweet chocolate with brownie chunks—but it lacked a decadent richness. The V Word still finds So Deliciouscashew milk pints to be the richest in vegan ice cream. Anyway, B&J’s nondairy line is available at select Target stores. Check www.benjerry.com for locations.
