There’s a whole world out there in Gridland that hasn’t glanced at Alkali Flat through a shot glass while desperately trying to recall old Tom Waits lyrics. It’s a world of the well-behaved, where people sip tea or wine while they judiciously catalog their thoughts into notebooks or tap them into laptops. For those folks, there is a very nice young singer-songwriter from Modesto named Megan Slankard, who will be appearing at Marilyn’s, at 1177 K Street, this Friday, November 12. Also appearing are local band Paradigm, featuring Shannon Curtis; and Seattle trio Late Tuesday. The veritable overload of yin energy will begin promptly at 9:30 p.m., and the cover charge for the 21-and-over show is $6. Dunno how toppermost Slankard’s live show is, but her publicists are earning their keep. And for you just-fell-off-a-freight-train folks, writer and musician Cary Rodda will play a CD-release party at Old Ironsides, 1901 10th Street, with American Karma also on the bill. The 9 p.m., 21-and-over soiree will set you back $6. Bark or howl.
