Looking for some wild-ass thrills to hang on your wall? Venture over to the new Toyroom Gallery and take a gander at the works of Robert Gordon. Not the neo-rockabilly singer or the erudite Memphis chronicler of soul music, Gordon instead is a local who stopped into a salon with some of his work. “Wanna buy some?” he asked. One of the people there knew John Soldano and Craig Maclaine, who are opening the Toyroom in a space on the alley between 2nd Avenue and Sloat Way, just east of 24th Street in Curtis Park (it’s directly behind 2419 2nd Ave.). They flipped over Gordon’s carny-gypsy fortuneteller-biker bar style, which manifests itself as slapdash, garishly colored pieces bearing such inscriptions as “Planet Earth Bitch Hunt,” “Dope Sick Sexbitches” and “12 Steps to the Bar.” Toyroom will be open this Friday, December 14, and Saturday, December 15, from 6:30 p.m. until “late.” Mature subject matter, for those of you with kids.
