Some people are impressed by birds in flight. Southern California artist Dean DeCoker, on the other hand, harbors an obsession with the more mechanical, man-made methods of getting airborne. Although his current show at Jayjay is titled In a Shallow Lagoon, that’s somewhat of a red herring; DeCoker’s

three-dimensional constructs evoke the combination of strength, lightness and the delicate balance between the rigid and the flexible that make human flight possible. Jayjay is located at 2906 Franklin Blvd., hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday or by appointment. For information call 456-7650.
