Reel to reel

Local film buffs roll out the red carpet for independent films this week during the Tahoe-Reno Independent Film Festival. T-RIFF showcases the year’s top independent short and feature films from around the world. Several venues in Reno, Lake Tahoe and Carson City will feature films including Dave Barry’s Complete Guide to Guys, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist’s book. G2G (as it’s been nicknamed) premieres at 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at Sand Harbor Amphitheater, Sand Harbor Park, Highway 28, Incline Village. The ensemble period piece, Formosa (pictured) will also premiere at the festival. The film screens with The Wendell Baker Story, which was directed by Andrew Wilson (the brother of actors Luke and Owen Wilson), as part of a double feature at 8 p.m. Aug. 26 at Sand Harbor. Tickets are $20. There will also be workshops, tributes and parties during the festival, which runs through Aug. 28. Call (775) 298-0018 or visit www.t-riff.org for schedules and ticket prices.
