Sweet Seoul Sisters

The Ahn Trio may look like they belong in a pop group, but don’t let their hip, youthful appearance fool you. Twin sisters Maria (cello) and Lucia (piano) and younger sister Angella (violin) have been performing chamber music together since they were children in South Korea. The Juilliard School graduates won top prizes at the 1992 Alliance Northeast Competition for Chamber Ensembles and the Coleman Chamber Competition, achievements that catapulted them to fame. Their first two albums included trios by composers such as Ravel and Dvorak but they pushed traditional classical boundaries when they released Ahn Plugged, which presents classical music in an alternative format. Their latest album, Groovebox, features works by living composers such as Kenji Bunch and Maurice Jarre. The Ahn Trio performs 8 p.m. July 24 at Hawkins Amphitheater, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road. Tickets are $27 and $37. Call 832-1606 or 828-6642.
