Quake simulator plan

In superpower competition, an earthquake simulator gap may be developing.

Shanghai’s Tongji University said this week it is building what will be the world’s largest quake simulator for use in testing bridge, building, tunnel and other planned structures.

That would mean the United States would lose its lead in the simulator field. Right now the world’s largest simulator is at the University of Nevada, Reno. Its simulator has half the capacity of the planned Chinese one, according to the official China news agency.
