Municipal bus facilities for the age of green are being planned in Clark County, a region that is the very definition of sprawl.
The Regional Transportation Commission there has awarded a $17 million contract for a bicycle-friendly depot at Bonneville Avenue and City Center Boulevard. Riders can ride to the depot and take a bus from there.
A $14.8 million contract was also let for the construction of outlying terminals at which drivers can park their cars and ride the bus.
The depot will accommodate 16 buses and 100 bike racks, plus a bus repair shop.
RTC officials are arguing that commuters will be able to substantially reduce their commute times by using the bus.
