WREC gets gold star

Chico State’s Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC) recently received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating for its environmentally friendly construction process and operational features, according to a Chico State press release.

Among the many features assessed by the U.S. Green Building Council, the WREC was recognized for controlling indoor air pollutants during construction, using plenty of natural light and solar pool heating, and installing low-flow shower heads and waterless urinals. The gym also retrofitted 25 of its 29 elliptical machines in June so users can generate electricity during a workout.
