The good side of town

The city of Oroville might have some problems (Cover Story). But don’t let that force you into looking elsewhere for entertainment. You can cool off in the lake or try your hand at gambling in the casino. And besides those big draws of Oroville, there are plenty of other things to check out that will entertain you for at least an afternoon.

Bidwell Bar Suspension Bridge: While you’re checking out the lake, make sure to take a stroll across California’s first suspension bridge. Just don’t jump off it if you get hot during your walk!

Oroville Chinese Temple & Garden: For those of you looking a little more inward for your tranquility, check out this temple, built in 1863. With lots of cool stuff to see and a garden to boot, hopefully that hot afternoon will melt into a sea of Zen.

Antique heaven: If you don’t mind wandering the sizzling streets of downtown Oroville, make sure you stop in at one of the many antique shops. Remember, one person’s junk is another person’s treasure. If you’re not looking to buy something, take a tour of Bolt’s Antique Tool Museum, where you can check out cool tools from days past.

Oroville by air: If you’re looking to get high, altitude that is, take an airplane tour of the lake, the Feather River or the surrounding areas. Just set your course toward the municipal airport for information.

Wineries: If you’re the thirsty type, you can take a tour and taste at two of the three wineries in Oroville. If you happen to get a little hungry on the way, stop in at Lodestar Farms where you can sample various olive oils in their tasting room (the first in Butte County).
