The end of negotiations

Holdout bargaining units agree to concessions

Assistant City Manager Mark Orme announced during the City Council’s regular meeting Tuesday, April 1, that the city had reached agreements with the city’s two holdout bargaining units: the SEIU Trades and Crafts Unit and the Stationary Engineers Local 39, whose new three-year contracts will save the city about $363,000 and $82,000, respectively.

Orme noted that the savings is impressive given the size of the groups. Trade and crafts represents 48 members, while the Local 39 represents 11 city employees. He also pointed out the groups’ members are on the lower end of the pay scale in the context of city-employee salaries.

The six council members present (Councilwoman Mary Goloff was absent) voted unanimously to approve the new agreements. In total, recent negotiations across the nine groups add up to a savings of more than $4 million, Orme said.
