That’s a WRAP

ARC of Butte County recognized for green practices

The ARC of Butte County has been recognized for its efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle and buy recycled for the fourth year in a row.

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery named the ARC as a 2011 “Waste Reduction Awards Program” (or WRAP) winner, according to an organization press release. The ARC maintains two Butte County locations, in Chico and Oroville, the ARC Pavilion Banquet Hall and an eBay store, all of which support diverting an estimated 250,000 pounds of trash from reaching the county landfill. The stores resell donated items like clothes, household appliances, scrap metal, car parts and books.

“Our green philosophy is practiced throughout our organization and is not just a commitment to environmental sustainability, but also as a means for ARC to increase the profitability of our agency,” said the ARC’s Tom Leonardi.
