Registration deadline looming

Chicoans have until May 23 to register to vote in June

Chicoans who want to vote in the special municipal election taking place June 7 have less than two weeks—until May 23—to register with the Butte County Elections Office.

The special election is over the stand-alone issue of whether Chico City Council elections should be moved from the November general election to the June primary. Proponents of Measure A say local elections are overshadowed by November’s “hyper-partisan state and national campaigns …” Opponents note that fewer voters turn up at the polls in June and that a move will be costly to the city.

Voter-registration cards are available at local post offices, the library, the City Clerk’s Office, the county elections office, and the Department of Motor Vehicles. For more info or to check your registration status, visit http://clerk-recorder.buttecounty.net.
