No parade for Aaron Rodgers

Talk of a celebration in his honor fizzles

Chico has been abuzz with talk of a parade featuring Aaron Rodgers (pictured) since the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback led his team to a Super Bowl victory last month, but that much-hoped-for celebration of Chico’s favorite son has officially been canceled.

“His management team let us know near the beginning of March that there would be no parade or city event,” said Alice Patterson, Chico Chamber of Commerce communications and marketing manager. The chamber had been in the beginning stages of planning an Aaron Rodgers Day and Parade, according to a Feb. 7 press release.

Rodgers’ modesty made him feel uncomfortable having a large parade in the middle of his hometown, according to a member of his management team.

Instead, the former quarterback for Pleasant Valley High School and Butte College is planning to release a letter he’s written thanking the local community for its support.
