Nickell bows out

City Councilman Tom Nickell will not seek re-election

Saying he’d been “pondering back and forth for quite a while,” Tom Nickell has decided he will not seek another term this fall to the Chico City Council.

Nickell (pictured), currently vice mayor, filed the paperwork to run earlier this year, but recently decided his plate is too full to pursue further public service. The one-term councilman cited family issues as a reason for wanting to forgo another term. “I just won’t be able to continue to put in the 110 percent,” he said. Additionally, he has started another career in which he investigates the origins and causes of wildland fires.

Nickell said he isn’t ready to support anyone for his seat on the council: “I know people are going to want to know who I will endorse, but I’m going to wait and see who’s running first.”
