Preschoolers squirmed as state Treasurer Phil Angelides, making no reference to his planned bid for governor, blasted Legislators and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for a state debt that’s 36 percent higher than when Gray Davis was recalled. Angelides made Chico Oaks Preschool a tour stop for the California Debt Clock, which is at $25 billion. “We have to stop borrowing against the future,” said the treasurer, gesturing toward 3- and 4-year-olds who eyed the red, digital display with interest. “It is a good-looking clock but you don’t need to clap for it,” Angelides said.
