Mystery in Gridley

Sheriff’s Office investigates suspicious death of resident

Investigators with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the suspicious death of a Gridley woman.

The body of Deborah Shelgren was discovered Friday (Aug. 20) in the bed of a pickup truck near her home on Archer Street. At this time it’s unclear how the 44-year-old Gridley-area resident died. There are no obvious signs of trauma, according to the BCSO.

An unidentified man at the residence was arrested for obstruction and resisting arrest, but he has since been released. Investigators are now awaiting results from an autopsy and toxicology reports to determine a cause of death. That will likely take several weeks.

In the meantime, anyone with information about Shelgren’s death is urged to contact BCSO at 538-7321.
